Schatz Statement on Senate Passage of Resolution Opposing Putin Proposal to Question Current and Former U.S. Officials

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) released the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted to pass a resolution affirming the Congress’ opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to question current and former U.S. officials. The resolution was introduced by Senator Schatz, along with Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Ranking Member Robert Menendez (D-N.J.). It passed by a unanimous vote of 98-0.

“It is outrageous that President Putin’s proposal was not met with immediate dismissal. With this vote, the Senate has sent a message that is free from all ambiguity. Americans will not be handed over to Putin on our watch. Those who serve our nation do not answer to the Russian President, and they have the support of a thankful nation.”
