Free Tax Services Available for Senior Citizens, Low-and Moderate-income Families and Individuals


Honolulu, HI–U.S. Senator Brian Schatz’s website provides resources for people seeking tax preparation assistance and information. Senior citizens, low income and moderate income individuals may receive free help in filing tax forms, responding to the Internal Revenue Service, and resolving tax disputes. Taxpayer clinics and counseling are available, as well as new information on the Earned Income Tax Credit for full-and part-time workers.

“Tax season can at times seem confusing, but there are places out there that can help. Thank you to all of the public and nonprofit organizations for providing free tax resources for our residents,” said Senator Schatz. "These services can empower, inform and help during tax season.”

IRS certified volunteers provide free tax preparation assistance provided by Hawaii Alliance for Community-Based Economic Development (HACBED).

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

EITC Credit is a tax benefit for people who worked full or part-time.  

This year there are new and expanded tax credits for low- and moderate-income workers.

Low Income Tax Clinics (LITC)

Low Income Tax Clinics (LITC) provided by Legal Aid Hawai‘i. Offers free tax services to low-income and English as a second language (ESL) persons. LITCs can also help taxpayers respond to IRS notices, correct account problems, and assist in audits, appeals and collection disputes.
