Schatz Statement On Republican Carbon Fee Proposal
WASHINGTON – Following the release of a proposal from a group of Republican leaders that would cut carbon pollution and fight climate change through a carbon fee, U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), co-chair of the Climate Action Task Force, issued the following statement.
“This proposal from a well-respected group of Republicans is an important step in the right direction and proof that cutting carbon pollution and fighting man-made climate change is not a partisan issue,” said Senator Schatz. “I am glad to see that this proposal includes many of the same policies outlined in carbon fee legislation I introduced with Senator Whitehouse last Congress. I hope my Republican colleagues in the Senate will build off of this proposal and work with us on finding bipartisan solutions to the greatest challenge facing our planet.”
Senator Schatz and U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) introduced a similar carbon fee proposal last Congress.
