Schatz Statement On FEMA Extending Temporary Housing Support For Maui Fire Survivors Until February 2026

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) issued the following statement after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) extended financial assistance and direct temporary housing assistance for survivors of the Maui fires until February 2026. The assistance through FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program was originally set to expire in February 2025.

“FEMA’s extension means survivors will continue to have homes for their families for the foreseeable future. But let’s be clear about what’s needed – building temporary housing so that survivors have stable roofs over their heads as they recover.”
