Schatz Receives High Rating From League of Conservation Voters
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) received a nearly perfect score today on the League of Conservation Voters’ 2015 National Environmental Scorecard. The LCV is one of the country’s leading environmental advocacy groups and awarded Senator Schatz a 96 percent rating for his work to protect the environment and promote clean energy policy.
“For decades the League of Conservation Voters has been a moral compass helping to lead Congress toward environmental protection and clean energy,” said Senator Schatz. “I’m pleased to have received one of the LCV’s highest ratings in 2015 and look forward to working with them throughout 2016.”
“We applaud Senator Schatz for his environmental leadership, especially when it comes to fighting the climate crisis. We are proud of his very impressive 96 percent on the 2015 National Environmental Scorecard, and we are so pleased to score his climate change science amendment,” said Gene Karpinski, President of the League of Conservation Voters.
During 2015, Senator Schatz voted repeatedly to support President Obama’s Clean Power Plan, introduced legislation to create a tax on carbon, and attended the United Nation’s climate talks in Paris to demonstrate that the Senate stands behind the United States’ effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Senator Schatz’s position on the Senate Committee on Appropriations also allows him to help direct federal funds toward clean energy initiatives.
