Schatz Provisions To Help Veterans Maximize Education Benefits To Be Signed Into Law
WASHINGTON – Provisions from the bipartisan Student Veterans Transparency and Protection Act to provide veterans with up-to-date student outcomes and financial information for eligible educational institutions are set to be signed into law by President Biden after passing Congress this week. The provisions, originally authored by U.S. Senators Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), will require the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to make the information available through its G.I. Bill Comparison Tool and train its education counselors in using the tool in order to help veterans make the best choices about where to use their education benefits.
“The G.I. Bill benefit has helped open the doors to higher education for so many veterans who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to access it. But to maximize its potential, veterans need to have the most current information about different schools and their benefits,” said Senator Schatz, a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. “These provisions will help veterans across the country find the education program that’s right for them.”
“Our men and women in uniform put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms we enjoy here in the United States. When they come home, we have a responsibility to provide the resources and benefits they have earned,” said Senator Rounds. “This includes making certain veterans have the tools and information they need to utilize their G.I. Bill benefits to attain a higher education. I am pleased that this legislation is being signed into law.”
