Schatz Partnering with Google to Help Maui Small Businesses Get Online
Event Will Help Hawaii Business Owners Grow Their Business Online and Create Websites
Honolulu, HI – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) is teaming up with web giant Google to host a workshop on Maui March 19th to help Hawai‘i small businesses take advantage of online opportunities and grow their businesses. At the Hawai‘i Get Your Business Online event, Google experts will help small business owners create their own websites courtesy of Homestead and teach business owners how to reach more customers online.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our communities and an important part of Hawai‘i’s economy,” said U.S. Senator Schatz. “I’m partnering with Google for this Maui workshop because we need to support our small businesses and help them grow and expand in Hawai‘i. I saw the hard work and sacrifices my in-laws made as small business owners day in and day out to run a successful restaurant. Our event with Google will help small business owners improve their customer base by giving them the online tools to expand their reach.”
At the workshop Google and Senator Schatz are hosting, businesses will also receive a customized domain name, free web hosting for one year, a local business listing on Google Maps, free tools, training and resources. The Hawaii Get Your Business Online workshop is an easy and fast way for Maui businesses to get a website and become more visible online, where the majority of people look for goods and services. While 97% of Internet users look online for local products and services, 68% of Hawaii’s small businesses do not have a website or online presence.
“The perception that getting online is complex, costly and time-consuming has prevented many Hawai‘i small businesses from taking the first step,” said Scott Levitan, Director of Small Business Engagement at Google. “This program makes it fast, easy and free for businesses to get online."
