Schatz: More Than $30 Million In New Federal Funding Heading To Hawai‘i To Improve Airports On Maui, O‘ahu
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, announced that the Federal Aviation Administration is awarding $30.6 million to two airports on Maui and O‘ahu. The funding comes from the historic Infrastructure Law passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden in 2021.
“This new federal funding will support necessary upgrades at Honolulu and Kahului airports that will make it easier and faster for passengers to get through the airport and to their final destination,” said Senator Schatz.
The $30.6 million in new federal funding includes:
- $8.6 million for Kahului Airport on Maui. The new grant will fund the construction of a new security screening checkpoint facility, which will include six new TSA screening lanes.
- $22 million for the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on O‘ahu. The funding will be used to improve the Terminal 2 roadway for the Wiki Wiki Shuttle, expand sidewalks, and update lighting to the Diamond Head Concourse.
