Schatz Congratulates Suzanne Vares-Lum On Being Named President of East-West Center

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement today congratulating Suzanne Vares-Lum on her appointment to be the next president of the East-West Center.

“I congratulate Suzanne Vares-Lum on this well-deserved appointment to be the next president of the East-West Center,” said Senator Schatz. “As a Native Hawaiian woman, a former major general in the Army, and a community leader here at home, her unique experience and important perspective will serve her well in this new role. I look forward to working with her as the East-West Center continues to play an increasingly important role in strengthening our national security and improving cooperation across the Indo-Pacific.”
