Major General Wong Awarded FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) commended Major General Darryll D.M. Wong, the Adjutant General for the State of Hawai‘i, for receiving the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Director’s Community Leadership Award.  This award recognizes exceptional efforts to combat crime, terrorism, drugs, and violence in communities near each of the FBI’s 56 field offices.  Senator Schatz joined Major General Wong at an awards ceremony today where FBI Director James B. Comey personally honored Major General Wong.

“Major General Wong has done an excellent job helping keep our communities in Hawai‘i safe,” Senator Schatz said.  “He has served our state and country with distinction for over forty years.  I have worked with Major General Wong and have seen his strong commitment to the security of our state firsthand.  This well-deserved award makes us all proud.”

As Adjutant General, Major General Wong oversees the training and readiness of the Hawai‘i National Guard.  In addition to serving in combat missions overseas, the 5,500 soldiers and airmen of the Hawai‘i National Guard may be called into service during state emergencies.  Major General Wong also directs State Civil Defense, supports the Office of Veterans Services, and is the Homeland Security Advisor to the Governor.
