Schatz Congratulates Hawaii's Debra S. Wada On Presidential Nomination

Wada Slated for Army’s Assistant Secretary Position

Washington, DC —U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) congratulated Debra S. Wada on being nominated as Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Department of Defense.

“President Obama has recognized a tremendous candidate for this important post in Debra Wada,”  said Senator Schatz.  “Debra’s experience handling military-personnel issues as well as her time in the House and Senate make her an ideal candidate for Assistant Secretary.  A graduate of St. Andrew’s Priory School for Girls, Debra embodies the school motto, Women for Hawai ‘i, Women for the world. Hawai‘i is proud of all she has accomplished and all she will accomplish.”

Debra S. Wada is a professional staff member for the Subcommittee on Military Personnel for the House Armed Services Committee, a position she has held since 1999.  Ms. Wada served as the lead staff member for the Subcommittee from 2007 to 2010, and briefly served as Deputy Staff Director for the committee in 2011.  In 1999, Ms. Wada served as a Legislative Affairs Specialist for the National Park Service.  Ms. Wada served as a Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka, acting as the Senator’s principal aide on national defense, veterans’ affairs, maritime issues, education, Social Security and welfare from 1987 to 1990.  Ms. Wada received a B.A. from Drake University.
