Schatz, Bi-Partisan Group of Senators Request Funding For Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Programs
Programs are critical to NASA, NOAA & NSF
WASHINGTON – Senator Brian Schatz and a group of bi-partisan senators requested that the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, continue to support and fund science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs in its FY2014 appropriations bill. These programs, funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF), are critical to ensure that the skills gap is closed for technical and scientific jobs in American industry, academia and government.
“Science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs are important investments for the future of our country and this is why I’m proud to have a bi-partisan group of senators join me in pushing for full restoration in funding for these initiatives,” said Senator Brian Schatz. “These programs use a limited amount of resources, but are extremely critical to the current and future workforce in Hawaii and across the country. I will continue to ensure that Hawaii has the funding necessary for these programs and others that are critical to working families and Hawaii’s future.”
