Obama Outlines His Plan to Address Climate Change and Reduce Carbon Pollution
WASHINGTON- Today, Senator Brian Schatz, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, attended President Obama’s landmark address on climate change at Georgetown University.
“President Obama took a big step towards addressing climate change today by announcing new efforts to cut carbon pollution from power plants and make homes and businesses more efficient, while also creating valuable local jobs,” said Senator Brian Schatz, Chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee’s Water and Power Subcommittee. “The overwhelming judgment of science is there. We know that climate change is one of the greatest challenges the U.S. will confront this century, impacting our national security, our homes, and our livelihoods. As we saw with Hurricane Sandy, the cost of inaction can be devastating for our country. While Hawaii has made big strides by moving towards a clean energy economy and reducing our unemployment rate, the American people must keep up the pressure on elected leaders, urging them to take meaningful action on a national level in reducing the pollution that causes climate change. The time is now to stand with President Obama in making a difference for our entire country, and I will continue to work for clean energy for future generations.”
