Schatz Announces Release of $800,000 in FTA Funds for Maui County's ADA Compliant Bus Stop Shelter/Signange Program

Today, U.S. Senator Brian Schatz announced the County of Maui Department of Transportation will receive $800,000 in federal funding for its ADA compliant Bus Stop Shelter/Signage Program. The funding will be used for the construction of shelters with site improvements at various locations on the island of Maui.

"The state of Hawai‘i and our communities are committed to providing greater access to safe, affordable public transit options," said Senator Brian Schatz. "With the growing need for public transportation across our state, this grant will encourage equal access to transportation services, help to ease traffic congestion, and aid our efforts to move away from a dependence on foreign oil."

This project was selected on a competitive basis from the Federal Transit Administration's Bus Livability Initiative. Project selection was announced in August 2012. Funds are now being obligated for the project for the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation to be allocated for the County of Maui Department of Transportation's ADA compliant Bus Stop Shelter/Signage Program.
