Schatz Announces More Than $3.1 Million for Hilo International Airport

Funds Will Improve Transportation Infrastructure and Create Jobs

Washington, DC – Today U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) announced that Hilo International Airport will receive a $3.1 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.  This grant will provide funding to rehabilitate the airport’s runway by improving the structural integrity of the pavement and minimizing debris on the airstrip.

“These funds for the Hilo International Airport are an important investment for Hawai‘i Island’s local economy,” Senator Schatz said.  “These federal funds will make sure Hilo International Airport has the resources it needs to make critical improvements, making it safer and easier for families and visitors to travel to and from Hawai‘i Island.”

Senator Schatz is chairman of the Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Tourism, Competitiveness, and Innovation.
