Schatz Announces $300,000 Grant For Veterans and Veterans Families Services In Kapolei

Honolulu, HI--Today, U.S. Senator Brian Schatz announced the Department of Labor’s Homeless Female Veterans and Veterans with Families Program will award the United States Veterans Initiative in Kapolei a grant for $300,000 to provide homeless female veterans and veterans with families with job training to help them succeed in civilian careers.

“This grant will help to provide military service members and their families with greater means as they transition to civilian life, finding new jobs and new homes,” said Senator Brian Schatz. “Our veterans and veterans’ families sacrificed for our nation and we now have the unique opportunity to give back. I am very pleased that the Department of Labor has recognized the services that Hawaii provides for its veterans in the battle against homelessness and unemployment.”

On Monday, the Department of Labor announced 22 grants, totaling more than $5 million for programs across the country awarded on a competitive basis to state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations, including faith-based and community organizations.  The services provided by grantees will include job placement, on-the-job and classroom training, career counseling, life skills and money management mentoring, as well as help in finding housing.
