President Obama Awards Senator Inouye with the Presidential Medal of Freedom
WASHINGTON- Senator Brian Schatz praised President Obama for awarding Senator Daniel K. Inouye with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation’s highest civilian honor, and this year marks the 50th Anniversary of Executive Order that established the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
“It is an honor for all the people of Hawai`i that President Obama has chosen to award Senator Inouye with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his extraordinary public service, bravery and heroism,” said Senator Brian Schatz. “There is no better way to recognize Hawai‘i’s lion in the Senate than with our nation's highest civilian honor. This is an occasion of great pride for everyone in the 50th State and across our great country.”

President Obama said, “The Presidential Medal of Freedom goes to men and women who have dedicated their own lives to enriching ours. This year's honorees have been blessed with extraordinary talent, but what sets them apart is their gift for sharing that talent with the world.
